Phone numbers provide calling identities for supported inbound and outbound telephony workflows. Depending on your account and enabled providers, you can rent a number or connect a provider-managed number through SIP Trunks.

Rent a Phone Number

Before renting, check your provider’s purchase requirements and that your credit balance covers the displayed charges. Twilio number purchases require an eligible active subscription and room in your phone-number allowance. KYC approval and a verified address may be required for the selected provider or country.
  1. Open Deploy > Phone Numbers.
  2. Select the appropriate provider tab when multiple providers are available, then click the displayed rent-number action.
  3. Select an available country and enter any supported search filters.
  4. Review the number, location, capabilities, purchase charge, monthly rental charge, and verification requirements shown.
  5. Complete any required KYC or address setup in Settings (profile menu).
  6. Select a number and confirm the purchase. Check the owned-number list after the purchase succeeds.
Plivo number rental controls are tied to the inactive Plivo voice option and are not current production setup guidance. Legacy Plivo numbers or call records can have separate compatibility requirements; their presence does not mean new Plivo purchases or agent selection are available. Use only the provider actions offered to your account.
Number rentals consume credits and can renew automatically. Use the charges displayed for your provider and number; there is no universal rental-credit amount. Keep enough balance for renewal. A failed renewal due to insufficient credits can result in the number being disabled and released.

Managing Your Numbers

The number list shows status, country, rental information, and connection details where available.
  • Assign compatible numbers in campaign or incoming-connection setup.
  • Use the available sync action if provider registration needs refreshing.
  • Use Release when you no longer need a rented number, and review the confirmation carefully. Do not assume the same number can be rented again.
System pool numbers are shared numbers made available according to your plan’s system-pool setting. They are not available to every plan or for every calling workflow. The standard incoming-connection flow requires an owned number rather than a system pool number.

SIP Trunks

SIP access depends on the enabled SIP feature, your plan’s SIP setting, and allowed engines. See Deploy > SIP Trunks for trunk setup, provider routing, and adding your own numbers. Premium AI via SIP uses ElevenLabs SIP for Inbound + Outbound calls; Realtime AI via SIP uses OpenAI SIP and is Inbound Only.
